How to Have Your Cake & Eat it Too

Hello My Darlings!
Ok!  Are you one that thinks all sweets (or processed carbs) are BAD???  That if you intend to not have foods from this category as a staple in your life, that you should NEVER eat them, as they have ZERO redeeming value??
Or have you made an effort to quit the smack cold turkey, & believe that if you get even a taste of it – you’ll get readdicted in a heartbeat & be beholden once again to the great Sorceress of Sugar??
WELL!  IF you can relate AND wish for this to not be your fate, should you lean slightly closer to the fire (in just about a MILLION different opportunities that more than likely present themselves on a daily basis) – then listen up.  Please. 😉
When people aim to lose weight (generally) they cut back on calories, & often eliminate carbohydrates.  What generally happens is weight loss occurs, but sometimes it slows, stalls, & stops.  The reason for this are that certain hormone levels have changed.
Caloric math is a large part of weight loss, but hormones are something to consider & respect as well.
The less carbohydrates we have, the less Insulin we tend to have in our system.  The less Insulin, the less belly fat, the less Cortisol, & the less stress we tend to have on other health related issues (Diabetes, Heart Disease…).  This is a helpful thing.
One little glitch in this system, is that there’s another hormone – called Leptin that AIDS in weight loss, that ALSO happens to be in larger supply when we – A: have more weight on our frame; B: eat more calories; & C: eat more carbohydrates.
Well what THEN?!?  We use this knowledge to our advantage by having our cake & eating it too.
Your body is WIRED for survival.  The more fat you have on your frame, the longer you can survive WITHOUT food.
So if your body feels compromised at all – retaining fat, slowing digestion & metabolism, raising certain hormones to KEEP you in a sugar burning mode (to retain fat) ALL happens.  And in order to overcome that hard primitive wiring, we need to tap into the hormones (& behaviors) that reinforce that all is plentiful & well in your world – so your body can eat cake, chill out, & release fat.
Ok, so how this works is when one reduces calories &/or possibly eliminates carbohydrates – all is cool for awhile.  Until your Leptin levels start to drop.  The less calories we eat (in relation to our current weight) & the less carbohydrates we eat – the more our Leptin levels will lower = slowing/stalling/stopping weight loss.
What people tend to do when this happens is try harder.  They become MORE restrictive & rigid w/ how they’ve intended to eat, & the sad thing is that this only exacerbates the problem.
So what to do?  Have cake!  Or some readily accessible sugar in a delightfully processed carbohydrate!  (you CAN also do this w/ healthier carbs of your choosing, but the big thing to remember is anything goes – ESPECIALLY if you want it.)
REALLY?!?!????  YES!!!!!
We can use the same thing that made Leptin drop, have it rise once again.  Amazing.  Truly.
Since we are wired for feast & famine (please see https://www.michaelafoulkes.com/natural-born-fat-burners/), when the body senses scarcity – it prepares for that w/ stalling fat loss, & sometimes even slowing your metabolism depending on the severity it senses.  BUT if we give the body periodic spikes of both calories & carbohydrates, it feels reassured that there is an abundant supply of food, that all is well in the world – & that fat loss can happily carry on..
Now I am NOT advocating to have cake every day, because chances are that’s what possibly got you (or someone you know) into the mess of excess weight, or difficulty losing it, or health issues, or sugar addiction… 🙁
BUT having our cake PERIODICALLY can actually help us in this effort to keep being on Team Lean, NEVER have our weight loss mysteriously halt, AND not feel deprived that we can NEVER have decadent or celebratory foods that we love.
So there you are!  HAVE your cake & eat it too!  Guiltlessly!  Proudly!  Excitedly!  & STRATEGICALLY!  Please!
