Hello Dear One!
IF you’re like most people, when it comes to less ideal (but DESIRED) offerings, we tend to bind our own hands and assume that we have to accept the typical caloric or biological stress they come with.
If you MUST only have one brand/type of your indulgence of choice – then so be it.
BUT if you’re inclined to shop around a little to see how you can, “have your cake and eat it too”, than this post might be useful in the realm of bottled/canned beverages.
I personally am a big fan of the treat-like feel something cold, fizzy, and possibly sweet can be.
However, NOT at the cost of calories, sugar, or other chemicals that are biologically compromising.
There are a few I reliably turn to, and have been wishing to write this post for sometime.
So when I was in a big box store that offered up a bigillion offerings in this department the other day I thought to cull their shelves for all the beverages they had with zero to very little calories.
And what I found was a LOT.
More than expected.
Seltzers, sports drinks, sodas, flavored waters, and teas.
There were some that were tastier than others. and some that had less (or MORE!) GI repercussions+ after drinking a good amount.
And regarding sweeteners that have zero calories in drinks such as these, there is definitely a spectrum of Best, Better, Good/Fine.
Best: Stevia and Monk Fruit
Most people do totally fine on both of these sweeteners – no GI distress, no increased hunger.
Better: Erythritol
This is fine in moderation (for my system), as it can cause GI distress after a certain amount.
Good/Fine (in small amounts/occasionally): Sucralose
Truth is I found a LOT of varying information on this sugar substitute. And I actually personally found that it had a similar side effect as aspartame, as I felt HUNGRIER after having a couple drinks with it in it! So my personal opinion on this one is to be MINDFUL whether it’s present in the poison you’ve picked, and then to not have very much of it if you do indeed want that item.
But the thing that I most wish to make MOST known in this sharing, is that there are OPTIONS!
So hunt around, read labels, compare them. You just may find your next refreshing beverage of choice to the tune of zero calories.
AND if you like the full on diabolical offering of the original – have it when you REALLY want it. And have an alternative that has far less of an impact when something similar will do.
