How to Make Self Care Actually Happen

Hello Dear One!

SELF CARE.

Does that term conjure up images of bubble baths, doing yoga, or journaling?

And do those opportunities ultimately seem LESS than inviting??

Yup.  For most of us frankly.  Which is why we don’t do them.

And not that those things wouldn’t feel good to do, the truth is there’s a BIT that comes before that cart in order for us to actually WANT that business and ENJOY it.

Self care is really many things, but the two most crucial things I’d like to point out today (that affect MUCH) are:

#1. THINGS THAT LIGHT YOU UP

#2. ACTIONS THAT HONOR YOUR TRUTH

The reason why baths, or pedicures or long walks can be easily brushed past is that they don’t actually MOVE us.

They don’t excite us.

And with more and more of what others do (or what you “should want to do”) being in our faces – it’s understandable to want to jump on the Zen wagon of some slim yogini and thrill in stretching for 90 min in white lycra in a well lit room – but we OFTEN don’t follow through on that.

Because that business doesn’t touch us.

It actually feels like work.

So what IS exciting??

What DOES turn you on??

What gets your energy, juices, and IMAGINATION FLOWING???

THAT business is self care.

And the truth is when you’re in that lit up state it MAKES SENSE to do things that ARE actually supportive.

Like exercise.  Or soaking in a tub.  Or sitting and being quiet.  Or doing something that’s just for you.

And #2. YOUR TRUTH

And this is lower octane but kind of a necessary stance to be lived ALWAYS.

When we’re honoring our truth we are LISTENING to ourselves.

We’re actually able to navigate life and our preferences with the precision of a surgeon, and we do so – BECAUSE OUR TRUTH IS WHAT IS TRUE.

And when we honor these FACTS inside of us (that are true in this moment, or for a lifetime) we are taking a stand for the fact that THEY matter, and as a result WE MATTER.

THAT is self care.

So the going to bed early, drinking less alcohol (my big 2), getting to the gym, spending time in nature, taking a trip, taking yourself to a museum or to a movie…

These things HAPPEN when we’re full on more things that delight and excite AND when we’re honoring what’s so for ourselves (how we feel, what we want, what we do NOT want), and then we actually ENJOY them.

They suddenly feel like a blessing and not a burden – and we MAKE them happen.

Because it now makes sense to take care of ourselves.

Because how we live is in a state of taking care of ourselves.

And the final piece of this is then that state BUILDS on itself.

It is UNDENIABLY seductive to feel GOOD and to treat yourself exquisitely.

To feel WORTHY of such attention and care.

To IDENTIFY as being valuable and precious and to REQUIRE a certain level of love and observance.

It’s freaking GREAT.

It’s actually heart splittingly wonderful.

Especially if that has NOT always been the deal.

And the truth is that feeling of worthiness, significance and presence only travels OUT from you as well.

The better you FEEL about yourself, the better you will TREAT yourself, and the better you will treat OTHERS.

It’s a win, win, win, win, WOW, win, this just keeps getting better, WIN across the board.

So instead of putting on the hairshirt of what you should/are not doing, let’s start where we began

#1. WHAT LIGHTS YOU UP
