Do Keto Supplements Work?

Have you ever wished to have ____, and dreamt of being able to simply take a pill to create it?

Keto supplements seem to hold the promise of weight loss and fat burning, and that’s exactly what I thought when first hearing about them.

A lovely fat burning client told me of this, “magical elixir”, that she was being introduced to.  It was supposed to help her get and STAY in a fat burning mode more easily even despite eating more carbohydrates!

A product that sidesteps biological law?!?

REALLY??!?

No.

And here’s why.

Keto supplements SHOW that you have more ketones in your breath, blood, or urine when checking your levels.

Ketones are created when the body breaks down body fat or dietary fat into fuel.

Which is useful for energy and WEIGHT LOSS!!

However the ketones that we’re signing up for with a supplement are considered EXOGENOUS ketones.

Exogenous ketones are kind of crazy when you think about it.

The presence of ketones are a RESULT of the body getting into a fat burning mode from ingesting less carbohydrates + (please check out the 5 Parts of Fat Burning if you’ve yet to). 

Ketones are ENERGY that we’ve ACCESSED from our own fat reserves or are now able to easily get from our food due to TRAINING our body OUT of the easy default setting of searching for glucose when reserves are low.

When we wish to burn fat to LOSE WEIGHT, we don’t need MORE fuel.  We actually wish to use the fat we HAVE as fuel. 

Exogenous ketones mess with that process. 

Additionally when our bodies run on sugar we naturally have higher levels of glucose present.  When our bodies run on fat we have higher levels of ketones present.

It’s kind of UNNATURAL to have high levels of both at the same time, because it’s unnecessary.

Exogenous ketones create that reality.

PLUS in the process of creating our own ketones (called ENDOGENOUS ketones) we not only BURN FAT but we also build the requisite machinery to metabolize the new energy source.

AND it builds on itself.

In both directions.

ENDOGENOUS (made INSIDE the body) ketones are the result of the body getting resourceful due to HAVING to use fat for fuel creating ketones for energy, which releases body fat, which increases the number of ketones, which releases more body fat…

And the opposite is sadly true with EXOGENOUS (taken in from OUTSIDE the body) as the presence of “EXTRA” fuel in the form of ketones makes free fatty acids go down, as body fat is NOT liberated for fat burning.

Loopholes are GREAT!

However this one turned out to be a dead end.
