How to Not Gain Weight this Summer

Hello Dear One!

Are you super concerned about gaining weight AS we approach summer?

If you’re like the rest of the planet, you’re probably seeing an uptick in the NEED  and OPPORTUNITY to go out and HAVE FUN!

And as human as it is to want to socialize the things that often come along for the ride are FOOD and BOOZE (and often later nights, and sometimes interference with more supportive behaviors, ahem – the gym!).

So are we destined to potentially be putting on more weight while increasingly stepping away from the preferred path and habits we wish to solidly have in our lives?

Not necessarily.

For people that wrestle with weight, or that wrestle with always gaining the weight back – all or nothing thinking is pretty common (I CAN RELATE!).

We’re either ALL IN, or saying, “Fuck it!”, and throwing caution and cares to the wind.

Resulting in having what we don’t want.  Again.

But what if we didn’t simply look at our opportunities to socialize, HAVE FUN, and GO OUT as something we have to deprive ourselves of if we ALSO want to get a bit leaner before summer fully hits (LIKE ME).

What if we could GET/STAY on track with a lifestyle that actually feels most supportive and loving, that helps us improve our health, and feel PROUD of ourselves along the way?

YES!

…and, HOW do we go about doing that???

BOUNDARIES and DISCIPLINE.

As un-sexy as those two words sound they will make you feel like the most rare and valuable creature in the universe AND like you have a SUPER POWER.

Boundaries don’t include ALL OR NOTHING.

Boundaries are actually the OPPOSITE of all or nothing, because boundaries include your own razor fine specificity of SOME.

The 3 things I’ve been keeping my eye on that have enabled me to HAVE MY CAKE AND EAT IT TOO while having more time out with friends/loved ones are having boundaries around:

– calories
– carbs
– cocktails

So what does that look like?

Both eating when I’m hungry AND stopping when I’m full.

Making a point to prioritize protein in the meal and also be clear that (as someone that eats once a day) that I need more than most.

I’m aiming to be UPFRONT about what MY NEEDS are and to EXCUSE the person or situation from being required to meet them – but that I still need to get them met.

Having SOME of the carbs that are in play, but not many as I know they’ll be there again at the next dinner out.

Choosing to NOT DRINK more of the time than not.

Truth is alcohol (and carbs!) are ABUNDANT!

“Having a drink”, is so customary it’s unsettling.

It’s also poison.

It also slows weight loss.

It’s also AGING!

Which is the additional consideration I’ve bee making as of late to help me to TURN AWAY from whatever is being offered – as I don’t want that stuff ideally.

And I CERTAINLY don’t want it all the time.

And lastly the thing that’s making all this HAPPEN is DISCIPLINE.

Which means having the internal reminders in place and looking at them again and again and again and again so that recognition that THIS is the thing to do TODAY to stay in alignment with what I’m saying I want is OBVIOUS.

ADDITONALLY:
– Giving yourself little mini pep rallies of, “I can do this, I can do this, I can do this…”
– Visualizing what you want to have happen.
– PLANNING for what you want to have happen.
– Being VOCAL about what you’re doing.
– Knowing how GOOD it feels to be able to keep promises to yourself.
– Developing TRUST IN YOURSELF.
– Creating momentum towards an ever increasing bright side of your life.

And the truth is more food, more carbs, and more BOOZE do happen – but I’m putting boundaries around that to my carb feast (like all Fat Burners), and/or once a week with the alcohol.

It’s FINE to just GO FOR IT sometimes!

AND if you have slightly more self respecting and self loving boundaries in place in your world and the continued intention to practice the arT of DISCIPLINE – the indulgence with abandon can still happen while still not upsetting the apple cart.

LOVE RULES.

Both inside and out.
