How to Stop Emotional Eating

Hello Dear One!

Do you struggle at times (or often?!) with the seemingly inexplicable drive to eat for reasons far beyond hunger?

Is it a repeated process that you feel should simply stop, or that you need to, “try harder”, in some capacity in order to make it change?

If so you are NOT alone.

 

I’ve been pretty open about the fact that the ONLY reason why I know about weight loss, and subsequently Fat Burning, is due to my own wrestles with Emotional Eating.

I used to STRUGGLE with this BIG TIME and have taken just about every tactic to loosen the bonds of the PRISON that compulsive eating can feel like.

As I continue to evolve and have a more harmonious EXISTENCE and therefore harmonious RELATIONSHIP with food – a new insight has graced the stage.

The importance of CONGRUENCE.

I had an eye opening experience of spending a weekend and seeing two super present, loving, joyful, affirming, supportive, encouraging, and celebratory girlfriends – and noticed what an IMPACT that made on how I FELT and my BEHAVIOR following.

I simply felt CALM.  HAPPY.  PEACEFUL.  FULL.  FED.  NOURISHED.

When we eat for reasons beyond hunger it’s generally for relief or a feeling of pleasure.

Years ago in a mega coaching program I went through (I was the client) I learned abut PRIMARY vs SECONDARY food.

PRIMARY FOOD is made up of our relationships, a fulfilling career, and a spiritual practice.

Primary food gives us ENERGY, the feeling of LOVE, FULFILLMENT, EXCITEMENT, JOY, and a sense of being CONNECTED and ALIVE.

Secondary food fuels our body so we can be physically healthy and able.

It’s so common when we’re UNDERFED in Primary Foods to try to use Secondary Food to fill us up instead.

A futile effort that ends in regret, disappointment, and often shame – as many of us are familiar.

SO, a very straightforward thing to FOCUS on to FEED yourself the food you REALLY need is to look for things that are CONGRUENT with you.

What feels GOOD to you?

Does _____ feel good?

Does this person you’re spending time with feel good?

Are there things in your world that SIMPLY don’t work for you?

Do you love how your home environment feels?

Do the shoes/jacket/sunglasses you wear frequently light you up or make you die a little death each day??

THIS SHIT MATTERS.

The big deal elements of: relationships, purposeful work, and spiritual connection are really probably most consequential to nurture to the point of nourishment.

But the truth is EVERYTHING else kind of matters too.

What lights you up matters.

What you DESIRE matters.

Things feeling like a FIT matter.

Stuff that makes you feel ALIVE matters.

All this is the REAL FOOD we’re really craving, and no amount of Krispy Kreme Donuts, or default alcoholic drinks, or retail therapy will EVER get close to how FED we can get on the real deal meaty stuff.

So CONGRUENCE.

It’s being HONEST with others and honest with OURSELVES about what works, what doesn’t, and what feels BEST.

Brave moves for ourselves that land us in a completely different reality where a healthy and harmonious being presides, where self loving and self caring practices feel NATURAL because that’s how you’re living ALL of your life.
