EMOTIONS CREATE HABITS.
And PS: the ones that make you FEEL GOOD.
As a species we are wired to reach for pleasure and pull away from pain.
So when we attach a good feeling to a particular behavior we are FAR more likely to do it again.
Now we know that’s easy when we might be talking about automatically having popcorn at a movie, or listening to music while we drive – but what about the stuff that actually takes some work, concentration, or feels like challenge?
We can deliberately make those things feel good.
And we can do so by INTENTIONALLY CELEBRATING ourselves around them.
Actually BEFORE, DURING, and AFTER if you please.
When we make a point to GET GLEEFUL about putting on our sneakers and getting ready for the gym – it makes it EASIER TO GO.
Victory laps around the kitchen table after eating mindfully and having TWO chocolates vs the entire box.
Mini dance party at night AND in the morning from going to bed EARLY and waking up RESTED.
Loudly declaring how much of a ROCKSTAR you are for turning off the TV when you said you would and picking up your new intended night time read instead.
SO GOOD!!!!
And that GOOD FEELING not only wires associating PLEASURE with your new desired HABIT – but it also FEELS GOOD NOW!!
And feeling good NOW is ALWAYS a benefit.
Feeling good now keeps us present, conscious, in our POWER, and at CHOICE.
Making it SO much easier to continue to follow through on what serves us best, and disengage from what doesn’t.
So try it out!
